Michael Carrick reveals that Manchester United are ready for their FA Cup tie against Manchester City.

Manchester United centre-midfielder Michael Carrick has revealed that he is looking forward to his club's FA Cup derby meeting with Manchester City in January.

The rivals were paired together during Sunday's round three draw at Wembley Stadium.

When the sides last met in October City ran out 6-1 winners at Old Trafford, but Carrick believes that the result will have little impact on the next fixture.

"It was typical of the cup that that tie came out wasn't it?," the 30-year-old told the club's official website. "We're fully aware of how the big occasion will be, and if you want to win something you've got to play the better teams.

"It'll obviously be very intense and a great game and, if we can win it, it'll be a massive boost for everyone.

"Obviously, it hurt to lose like we did at home earlier in the season and while there's an element of wanting to put things right after the last two games against them, we'll just be focused on getting through to the next round."

United have not won the FA Cup since 2004.
