Alexis Sanchez's record vs. Chelsea

Ahead of Manchester United's top-four showdown with Chelsea on Sunday, Sports Mole looks at Alexis Sanchez's past record against the reigning Premier League champions.

Jose Mourinho will welcome his former club Chelsea to Old Trafford on Sunday when Manchester United host the reigning Premier League champions in a top-four showdown.

Both teams and both managers have come in for criticism in recent weeks, but on the field there is plenty of talent capable of lighting up such a blockbuster match - including United's newest signing Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean has scored one goal and assisted another in his six games for the Red Devils so far, and the early signs have been promising that the 29-year-old can rediscover his best form at the club.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at how he has fared against Chelsea in the past, during his time with Barcelona and Arsenal.

Sanchez vs. Chelsea

Sanchez has not had the best of times against Chelsea in the past, picking up just two wins and two goals in his 12 previous meetings with them across all competitions.

Matters get even worse when considering only Premier League games, with Sanchez scoring just once in his eight top-flight appearances against Chelsea during his time with Arsenal, also only winning one game while drawing three and losing four.

Every time Sanchez has scored against the Blues he has been on the winning side, though, registering a goal and assist in Arsenal's 3-0 win at the Emirates last season and also netting in last May's FA Cup final to help Arsenal to the trophy at Wembley.

The Chilean has already played Chelsea three times this season, featuring in both league games as well as an EFL Cup semi-final, with all of those matches ending as draws.

Indeed, Sanchez will know Sunday's opponents very well as this weekend's match will be his seventh against Chelsea in the last two seasons, during which time he has lost just once.

That is a significant improvement on three defeats and a draw from his first four meetings with Chelsea as an Arsenal player, while he also came up against the Blues during his time with Barcelona, starting both legs of the 2011-12 semi-final as Chelsea picked up a famous victory on their way to lifting the trophy.
