Manchester United captain Harry Maguire could miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury, according to a report.

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire could reportedly miss the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign due to a knee problem.

The centre-back was dropped for last weekend's Premier League clash with Arsenal but had been expected to return to the starting side against Chelsea on Thursday night.

Speaking during Wednesday's pre-match press conference, Red Devils interim head coach Ralf Rangnick said that Maguire would be missing against the Blues due to a knee issue.

Rangnick described the injury as "not a big thing", but according to the Daily Mail, the problem could keep the England international out for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old has struggled for form during the 2021-22 campaign, but he has still been a key player for Man United, featuring on 35 occasions in all competitions, scoring twice.

Incoming Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag will allegedly make a decision on whether Maguire will continue as team captain once he speaks to every member of the first-team squad.

The 20-time English champions, who are seemingly out of the race for a top-four spot in the Premier League table, will face Chelsea, Brentford, Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace in their final four league matches of the season, with the clash against the Eagles set for May 22.
