Manchester United lose eight of their opening 15 matches of a campaign for the first time since the 1962-63 season.

Manchester United have lost eight of their opening 15 matches of a campaign for the first time since the 1962-63 season, when their defeats stood at nine at the same stage.

The 20-time English champions entered Wednesday's EFL Cup last-16 contest with Newcastle United off the back of a 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Erik ten Hag's side were unable to bounce back, though, suffering another 3-0 defeat, with the Magpies breezing into the quarter-finals of the competition.

Miguel Almiron and Lewis Hall scored in the first half, before Joe Willock netted in the second, with holders Man United dumped out of the tournament.

Man United have now lost eight of their first 15 games of a season for the first time since 1962-63, while they have been beaten in five of their first 10 fixtures at home for the first time since 1930-31.

The Red Devils have lost to Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace and Manchester City in the Premier League this season.

Meanwhile, the struggling outfit have been beaten by Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in the Champions League, with Wednesday's loss to Newcastle their eighth of the season.

The 20-time English champions have not actually drawn a single match this season, also posting seven wins from their 15 matches.

A total of 15 points from 10 Premier League matches has left the Red Devils in eighth position in the table, already eight points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.

Ten Hag's side will now be bidding to bounce back against Fulham in the league on Saturday before travelling to Denmark for a huge Champions League clash with Copenhagen.

The team's final match ahead of the next international break will come at home to Luton Town on November 11.

Ten Hag made seven changes to his Man United side against Newcastle following the Manchester derby, but the contest brought the same result as Sunday, with the team's disastrous start reaching a new low.
