Bayern Munich honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has claimed that Louis van Gaal would be the "perfect" choice to become manager of Manchester United.
The Netherlands coach, who is reportedly close to agreeing a deal at Old Trafford, won the Bundesliga title and reached the Champions League final during a two-year stint at Bayern.
Despite the fact that Van Gaal has never worked in England before, Beckenbauer believes that the 62-year-old would be the right man to succeed David Moyes.
"He would be perfect for Man United because he is an internationally experienced coach and he understands English football," Beckenbauer told the Daily Mail.
"I don't know if it's a rumour or if they're really trying to sign him but if they agree with Louis I think it would be a good part of the future. He won a lot of titles so he is experienced and he is ambitious. He has the personality. He has everything."
Ryan Giggs has been appointed as the club's interim manager until the end of the season.
