Alexander Buttner has admitted that he would like to be given the opportunity to represent the Netherlands.
The Manchester United full-back has turned out for his country at Under-19 and Under-20 level, but he is yet to receive a call-up to the senior squad.
"When I watch Holland it gives me great encouragement. I really want to play for my country. It's just a matter of waiting for my chance and taking it when it comes," he told MUTV.
However, the 24-year-old has admitted that he would need to play more regularly for his club if he is to attract the attention of Louis van Gaal.
"I have to play more games here to be able to break into the national team. I hope that my chances will come soon. I want to get in the national team on merit and I believe I can do it."
Buttner has made three appearances this season, two of which have come in the League Cup.
