Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has insisted that club teammate Michael Carrick is good enough for England.
The 31-year-old was left out of the national side for Euro 2012 but is now preparing to pull on a Three Lions jersey when they face Italy in Berne on Wednesday night.
Carrick has received criticism from some England fans but Cleverley is adamant that his Red Devils partner should be in the team.
"Carro is a fantastic player, one of the best players I'll ever play with. Sometimes you need to see it first-hand with Michael to realise how good he is," said Cleverley.
"The level of midfielders must be good if he's only won 22 caps.
"Hopefully the youngsters can develop into players winning 50-plus caps."
Cleverley is preparing to make his England debut after missing out a year ago through injury.
