Andy Cole: 'Jose Mourinho has something to prove at Manchester United'

Andy Cole says that new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has "something to prove" at Old Trafford following his sacking from Chelsea in December.

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole has claimed that Jose Mourinho has "something to prove" after he was appointed as the club's new manager.

The Portuguese coach was officially announced as Louis van Gaal's successor on Friday.

Mourinho has signed a three-year contract with an option of extending his deal until at least 2020, but Cole believes that the 53-year-old has critics to answer due to his sacking from Chelsea in December.

"He has something to prove as an individual and he will try to get Manchester United, one of the biggest powerhouses in football, back on the right track," Cole told MUTV. "Hopefully it will be a marriage made in heaven and we can start competing again."

United finished fifth in the Premier League table this season.
