Jonny Evans reveals that Robin van Persie was guaranteed a starting spot under former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has revealed that Robin van Persie was the only player guaranteed a start under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Evans's words come following David Moyes's comments that striker Wayne Rooney could be used as cover for the Dutchman, which is reported to have made the England international question his future at Old Trafford.

"Unless it was Robin van Persie or Cristiano Ronaldo when he was here, there was never a first choice in any position," the Daily Mail quotes Evans as saying.

"If you didn't perform he would have you out of the team, but then if one of the other players had a game or two when they weren't at their best the manager would have no problem putting you back in."

Meanwhile, Moyes has revealed that the the club's bid to sign Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas is still "ongoing".
