Football Association 'confident over Gareth Southgate future'

The FA is reportedly confident that England boss Gareth Southgate will not break his contract if given the opportunity to take charge of Manchester United.

The Football Association is reportedly confident that England boss Gareth Southgate will not break his contract if given the opportunity to take charge of Manchester United at the end of the season.

United are currently under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and the club's former striker has a 100% record since replacing Jose Mourinho as head coach last month.

The Red Devils are expected to appoint a long-term manager at the end of the season, however, and Southgate was linked with the position over the weekend.

Southgate, who led England to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup, has a contract with the FA until after the 2022 World Cup.

According to the Daily Mail, 'senior FA insiders' are not concerned by the United reports, with the majority feeling that Southgate would not turn his back on the national team.

The 48-year-old's only previous managerial experience at club level came with Middlesbrough between 2006 and 2009.
