Radamel Falcao has insisted that he wanted to join Manchester United, despite reports claiming that he had his heart set on a switch to Real Madrid.
The Colombian signed for the Red Devils on transfer deadline day yesterday on a season-long loan from Monaco.
Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague told Sky Sports News yesterday that the 28-year-old tried to engineer a move to the European champions over the course of the summer, but a transfer failed to materialise.
However, after sealing his switch to Old Trafford, the striker wrote on Twitter: "Moving to @ManUtd was my decision. It's exciting to play at the world's best club and in such a competitive league."
Reports have claimed that Falcao, who was earning tax-free wages at Monaco, has become United's highest-paid player, eclipsing the reported £250,000-a-week wages earned by captain Wayne Rooney.
