After ruling out Anderson for the rest of the season, Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping that the midfielder does not suffer a career blighted by injury in the way that teammate Michael Owen has.

Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping that Manchester United midfielder Anderson does not suffer a career blighted by injury in the way that teammate Michael Owen has.

The 24-year-old Brazilian has made only four appearances since the beginning of November and he will not feature again this season after being ruled out with an ankle injury.

"He hasn't really realised his potential, which is there for all to see," said Ferguson.

"He is a fantastic footballer. I just hope he doesn't have the bad luck that Michael Owen has had throughout his career.

"At 23, obviously he's still very young and I'm sure we will get the benefit of that."

Owen has made just four appearances all season, scoring three goals.
