Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson labels Liverpool's signing of Daniel Sturridge as "a bit of a gamble".

Sir Alex Ferguson has labelled Liverpool's signing of Daniel Sturridge as "a bit of a gamble".

The forward moved to Anfield from Chelsea for a fee of £12m and could make his league debut at Old Trafford on Sunday.

However, Ferguson gave Sturridge credit for leaving Chelsea for first-team football, though he warned that the striker's history of moving clubs means that it is not a guaranteed success for Liverpool.

"Certainly the arrival of Sturridge gives Brendan Rodgers more strength and options up front," Ferguson told United Review.

"Sturridge has had a few clubs but I don't blame him for jumping at the chance of joining Liverpool because he just wasn't playing regularly with Chelsea and I always rate a player whose priority is wanting to play.

"Even so, his track record moving between a number of clubs suggests Brendan Rodgers is taking a bit of a gamble, but he clearly knows what he is doing."

Manchester United currently top the Premier League table by seven points after 21 games.
