Sir Alex Ferguson believes that he has a role at Manchester United waiting for him after his retirement as manager in "two or three years" time.

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that Manchester United are planning to offer the 70-year-old a position in the club's hierarchy after he retires as manager.

The prolific boss has admitted that he expects to continue on as Red Devils coach for another "two or three years" but believes that there is a role waiting for him at Old Trafford when he decides to call time on his management career.

"I will remain active," Ferguson told BBC Radio Five Live. "I think there will be a role for me at United after I finish.

"I think you always want to go out on a winning note. Hopefully we can do that. I don't know how long I can last now but if my health stays up I don't think another two or three years would harm me."

A number of managers have been touted as possible replacements for the Scotsman, including Everton coach David Moyes, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho and current United talisman Ryan Giggs.
