Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez suffers ligament damage against Aston Villa.

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has suffered ligament damage during his side's match against Aston Villa.

The striker was stretchered off after five minutes at Villa Park when he appeared to twist his ankle awkwardly while running for the ball.

Despite initial uncertainty over the extent of the injury, it has been reported that the Mexican has sustained ligament damage, according to ESPN.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said that he expected Hernandez to miss four weeks of action.

Villa players Shay Given and Jermaine Jenas were also stretchered off with injuries, leading to question marks over the state of the pitch.
