A controversial penalty from Demba Ba allows Newcastle to frustrate Manchester United with a 1-1 at Old Trafford.

Newcastle United have frustrated Manchester United with a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford due to a controversial decision from the referee.

Following a tight first half, the first goal came four minutes into the second courtesy of Javier Hernandez. The ball went in off Chicharito following Wayne Rooney's free kick after Magpies' Steven Taylor was deemed to have fouled the Mexican.

Newcastle went on to equalise through Demba Ba with a controversially-awarded penalty after Rio Ferdinand's challenge on Hatem Ben Arfa.

Manchester almost snatched a win in the dying moments of injury time, but a second goal from Hernandez was declared offside.

Alan Pardew's side will host Chelsea next Saturday, while the Red Devils travel to Villa Park after hosting Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.
