Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane hits out at the squad, claiming they 'threw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under the bus' after the Norwegian's dismissal.

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has claimed that the Red Devils squad was responsible for the dismissal of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian parted ways with the club in November, with the Old Trafford outfit sat seventh in the Premier League table on 19 points from the opening 12 games.

Keane hit out at the players on Sunday, telling Sky Sports: "When a lot of the players have been talking about the manager leaving, they keep saying Ole. Ole was their gaffer. Maybe Ole was too friendly with them. Maybe that was a problem. Maybe he was too nice to these lads, because these lads have done what I predicted and thrown him under a bus.

"If you want to compare them to Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City, it is chalk and cheese. These players don't run, they don't sprint, they don't close down, they don't work as a team and they work as individuals. They're almost just depending on their talent, which is coming up short as well."

Following the exit of Solskjaer, Michael Carrick has taken over as caretaker manager at Old Trafford, and he oversaw a 2-0 Champions League win over Villarreal on Tuesday before the Red Devils played out a 1-1 draw with league leaders Chelsea on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are searching for a replacement, with Ralf Rangnick expected to take the reins until the end of the season before the likes of Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino are considered.
