Vincent Kompany relishing Manchester derby after being declared fit

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany reveals that he is "perfect condition" ahead of Monday's derby match with Manchester United.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has said that he is in "perfect condition" ahead of Sunday's derby against Manchester United.

The Belgian defender injured his groin in his side's opening-day 4-0 win over Newcastle United, but made his return to action in last night's 3-0 Champions League victory away at Viktoria Plzen.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed yesterday that the central defender has returned to full fitness.

"It (the injury) feels great," Kompany told reporters following his side's win at Plezn. "I am really happy to be back with the guys and I work hard every single day to make sure I can play as many games as possible.

"I am also very thankful to the medical staff that gave me such good attention and allowed me to come back in perfect condition.

"I felt in incredible form when I left the team and I have come back feeling in the same form and that is the most important."

While Kompany is confident of a victory on Monday, the 27-year-old has said that his side must perform to the best of their capabilities to get a result against the English champions.

"We will make sure we are in the right condition for the game. It is a special game," he said.

"It is becoming one of the most sought-after fixtures in the world and it is always great to be involved in such games. I never take them for granted."

City won the Premier League title in 2011-12.
