Manchester United's proposed takeover is unlikely to be completed until May, according to a report.

Manchester United's proposed takeover is reportedly unlikely to be completed until May, even if the Glazer family soften their stance when it comes to their valuation.

Last November, the Glazers revealed that they were open to selling the 20-time English champions, and there has been a host of speculation surrounding the future of the club in recent months.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani have both submitted offers for Man United, although neither bid has met the Glazers' valuation, which is believed to be £6bn.

There has recently been speculation that the Glazer family are split when it comes to the future of the club, with Avram Glazer and Joel Glazer now believed to be leaning away from a full sale.

Avram Glazer and Joel Glazer are allegedly, for now, unwilling to drop their £6bn asking price, with Man United's on-the-field success this season seeing the businessmen hold their position.

The Red Devils have largely struggled for success since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure as head coach in 2013, but there have been plenty of signs of progress this term under new boss Erik ten Hag.

Man United won their first silverware in six years on Sunday by beating fellow Premier League Newcastle United 2-0 in the final of the EFL Cup.

Meanwhile, the club will face West Ham United in the fifth round of the FA Cup and Real Betis in the last-16 stage of the Europa League, having recently beaten Barcelona in the European competition.

The Red Devils are third in the Premier League table, meanwhile, eight points behind leaders Arsenal, while they are eight clear of fifth-placed Newcastle United in the race for a top-four spot.

According to The Guardian, Man United's sale, if it goes ahead, is now incredibly unlikely to go through before the end of March.

The report claims that a sale towards the end of the campaign is currently the most likely outcome.

"He was really happy for the club, as our owner. He wanted to be part of it. He was in the dressing room, it was good he was here. It showed his intentions," Man United boss Ten Hag told reporters when Avram Glazer came into the dressing room after the win over Newcastle.

The offers made by Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim are believed to have been around £4.5bn, meaning that the Glazers would have had to accept a significant reduction on their current valuation in order for a sale to go through under the proposed terms.

Ten Hag recently said that he was concentrating on footballing matters at Old Trafford rather than getting caught up in the off-the-field speculation.
