Richard Arnold leads the race to replace Ed Woodward as executive vice-chairman of Manchester United, according to a report.

Richard Arnold is reportedly leading the race to replace Ed Woodward as executive vice-chairman of Manchester United at the end of 2021.

Woodward will leave his role at the end of the year, with the 49-year-old announcing that he would vacate the position in the immediate aftermath of the fallout from the proposed European Super League.

Ajax's chief executive Edwin van der Sar, who played for Man United between 2005 and 2011, has been linked with the position at Old Trafford.

However, according to The Guardian, Arnold is at the head of the queue to be officially announced by the 20-time English champions as Woodward's replacement.

Arnold, who is currently Man United's group managing director, has overall responsibility for commercial affairs at the club.

Cliff Baty, who is the chief financial officer, and head of corporate finance Hemen Tseayo are also believed to be under consideration by the Glazers, with the owners seemingly favouring an internal promotion.
