Roberto Martinez believes that his Wigan Athletic side will have to be "perfect" if they are to claim anything from their home encounter against Manchester United.

Roberto Martinez believes that his Wigan Athletic side will have to produce a "perfect" display if they are to claim anything from tomorrow's home fixture against Manchester United.

Wigan have never beaten United during the Premier League era, while over the last five matches the Red Devils have come out on top 21-0.

However, Martinez has insisted that Wigan's performances against other big clubs this season will give his players confidence against the champions.

"The performances we have had at Anfield and Stamford Bridge this season have got rid of that block," he told reporters. "Against Manchester United, you have to be perfect, and we know now we can be perfect against these sides.

"We have been able to play at a very good standard in the last nine games and that is what pleases me most.

"That shows the group is ready to compete against anyone."

Wigan are currently 19th in the Premier League table.
