Jose Mourinho: 'Luke Shaw sacrificed holiday'

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho reveals that Luke Shaw trained at the club's training ground "every day" throughout the summer break to be ready for the new season.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that Luke Shaw trained at the club's training ground "every day" throughout the summer break.

After 10 months on the sidelines with a broken leg, Shaw returned to action in Man United's 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic in a pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon.

The full-back played 45 minutes of the clash at the DW Stadium and Mourinho has lavished praise on the 21-year-old for his work ethic over the last couple of months.

"When I found Luke at the training ground, it was a surprise for me because I thought he couldn't be ready to train without any type of limitation, but he did fantastic in the summer. He sacrificed his holiday," Mourinho told MUTV.

"He stayed in Manchester and was at the training ground every day, putting himself in condition. Of course, you lose a bit of sharpness of condition and confidence, that is normal, but he is trying hard."

Shaw is expected to be part of the Man United squad that flies to China next week to take on Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City.
