David Moyes: 'Wayne Rooney needs a rest'

Manchester United boss David Moyes believes that Wayne Rooney should be rested for England's friendlies against Chile and Germany next month.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has called on Wayne Rooney to be rested for England's upcoming friendlies against Chile and Germany.

The Three Lions face Chile on November 15 before taking on old rivals Germany four days later.

Moyes believes that the striker is in need of a break from international football if he is to be in form for next year's World Cup.

"If we want a fit and firing Wayne Rooney at the World Cup it might be better giving him a week's holiday," Sky Sports News quotes the Scot as saying.

"England have one more international after Christmas against Denmark in March so this might be the one to rest him.

"A lot of coaches will look at their players and see the November internationals as the last time to get any decent rest."

Moyes was speaking after United's 1-1 draw at home to Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.
