Report: Sir Alex Ferguson book could scupper Wayne Rooney deal

Revelations made about Wayne Rooney in Sir Alex Ferguson's book, to be published this week, could reportedly scupper contract negotiations between Manchester United and the England striker.

The release of Sir Alex Ferguson's autobiography this week could reportedly scupper Manchester United's contract negotiations with Wayne Rooney.

Ferguson's book is expected to repeat the claims that Rooney requested a transfer away from Old Trafford last season because he was unhappy with how he was being used by the now retired Scot.

He has since emerged as a key player under new manager David Moyes's regime and the Premier League champions are hoping to extend his current deal with the club, which runs until the summer of 2015.

However, the Daily Mail reports that the England striker feels that revelations made in Ferguson's book could again make him a target of the Red Devils fans, as he was at the start of the season.

Should Rooney fail to commit to United, the same source claims that they may be forced into selling the 27-year-old for a cut-price fee, with Chelsea and Arsenal both still interested in signing him.
