David Moyes vows to use Manchester United youth players

David Moyes says that he intends to promote from within during his stint as manager of Manchester United.

Manchester United's incoming manager David Moyes has insisted that he will continue the club's tradition of promoting players from the academy into the senior side.

The current Everton boss will take over from Sir Alex Ferguson in July on a six-year contract.

Speaking for the first time about his new role, Moyes has revealed that his intention is to utilise the club's young talents.

"Manchester United have always relied hugely on young players and my priority will always be to promote these talents," he told the Cambridge Union.

"It is the right way to go. We need to be producing better English players and we are working to find the solutions. My aim would be to develop these young English players and get more and more coming through."

The Scot went on to state his belief that the English league model should mimic their Spanish counterparts to aid the production of footballers.

"There are issues to resolve. How do we get them more games at a competitive level? I like the Spanish model where there is a B team playing in the lower divisions. Could we implement the same here? That would be a starting point," he added.

"Three years ago, I wanted to get the young Everton team into the Conference, as it would be a good place to compete. The FA told us we would have to start from the bottom - in division 27 or something."

United's youngsters will take on Liverpool in the semi-final of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League at Old Trafford this evening.
