Oldham Athletic keen to tempt Paul Scholes into management?

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes is reportedly Oldham Athletic's number one managerial target.

Oldham Athletic are reportedly eager to appoint Paul Scholes as their new manager.

The former Manchester United midfielder, who retired in 2013, has recently been working as a television pundit with ITV and BT Sport.

However, League One Oldham have identified the 40-year-old as the ideal candidate to replace their Barnsley-bound boss Lee Johnson, according to the Daily Mail.

It is not known yet if the role would be of interest to former England international Scholes, but he is a close friend of Oldham chairman Simon Corney.

Scholes has often been seen taking in matches at Boundary Park, particularly since he called time on his playing career.

Meanwhile, it is expected that Johnson could be named the new manager of Barnsley as early as this afternoon.
