Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford lacks "the killer instinct" of a natural goalscorer, according to Michael Owen.

Rashford has scored 47 goals in 174 appearances for the Red Devils since making his debut in the second half of the 2015-16 campaign.

The 21-year-old is already off the mark with two goals in four Premier League appearances this term, although he has not registered since the opening weekend of the season.

Owen, who scored 150 times in the Premier League during a well-travelled career, has paid tribute to Rashford's all-round game but questioned the Englishman's goalscoring abilities.

"I don't think scoring goals is what he goes to bed craving," Owen told reporters at the launch of his autobiography. "I think it is overall performance, chipping in with goals, assists, everything. He is a better all-round player than me.

"He has a great touch and all round skill that I never had, but he hasn't got the killer instinct that I had. I was just obsessed. Players like Robbie Fowler, Sergio Aguero or Harry Kane - these people who are obsessed with goals. I don't think he is obsessed with goals."

Owen netted 17 goals in 52 appearances for United during his three years at Old Trafford.
