Marcus Rashford has his eyes on Wayne Rooney's goalscoring record at Manchester United, with the attacker now on 123 strikes for the club.

Marcus Rashford has revealed that he has his eyes on Wayne Rooney's scoring record at Manchester United, with the attacker moving closer to the total following his impressive 2022-23 campaign.

The 25-year-old was in excellent form for the Red Devils last season, finding the back of the net on 30 occasions in all competitions, and he has now netted 123 times for the club.

Rashford is 11th on the club's all-time scoring list, three behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 10th, with Rooney at the top of the chart, having netted 253 goals for the club in 559 appearances.

The England international has revealed that he has spoken to Rooney about his goal record and is hopeful that he will have the chance to pass the total before the end of his career.

Rashford recently signed a new contract at Old Trafford, penning fresh terms until the summer of 2028.

"You never know what's going to happen," Rashford told Gary Neville on The Overlap. "But I'm all about scoring goals and trying to make assists, so there's definitely a chance that it can happen and I've actually spoken to Wazza [Rooney] about it.

"He wants me to do it. He said it would be good for me to do it because I've grown up at the club, stuff like that. Hopefully, I get the opportunity to try to make that happen."

Rashford also opened up on Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag's desire to win silverware during his time at the club, with the Dutchman delivering the EFL Cup trophy last term.

"When he came in, I didn't hear him speak about getting in the top four once, he just wanted to win trophies.
"If you've got that mentality, I've always been around people that have that mentality," he added.

"He said it doesn't matter what we're playing in, the Europa League or Premier League, any of the cup trophies. He wanted to try to win everything.

"Listen, the players, we give it everything required. We let ourselves down definitely in the Europa League and I feel like, in the league, there was a period where we weren't defending as well and we stopped scoring as many goals as we were scoring. So that's something that I'll definitely want to correct for this season.

"It's sometimes not easy to recover but, here, throughout whatever time we had after a bad result, he [Erik] would give us confidence again.

"He would remind us sometimes that, listen, you are down, but you wouldn't be here if you weren't good players. I'm not one to need that all the time. But there are times after games like that, just a reminder like this next game, you're going to do it and he always give us that full confidence and support."

Man United will face Lens and Athletic Bilbao in friendlies this weekend before opening their 2023-24 Premier League campaign at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14.
