Winston Reid accuses Bastian Schweinsteiger over elbow

West Ham United defender Winston Reid says that Bastian Schweinsteiger should have been sent off for an elbow during the 0-0 draw with Manchester United.

West Ham United defender Winston Reid has accused Bastian Schweinsteiger of elbowing him during the Hammers' 0-0 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday and says that the midfielder should have been sent off by Mark Clattenburg.

The two players came together after jostling at a corner in an incident just before half time of the goalless draw, which resulted in the New Zealand defender falling to the floor.

Clattenburg warned both players but took no further action, and after West Ham manager Slaven Bilic claimed that the former Bayern Munich man should have been sent off, Reid was adamant in agreeing with his boss.

"It was a red card," Reid told reporters. "He knows what he has done – he has elbowed me in the face. The referee could not see it, so we move on."

The draw saw West Ham move up to sixth in the Premier League table, while United missed out on the chance to move second.
