Wayne Rooney backs Radamel Falcao to push on

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney backs Radamel Falcao to fire in the goals during a busy festive period.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has backed Radamel Falcao to push on after finding the net against Aston Villa.

The loan signing from Monaco scored his second United goal on the weekend, salvaging them a point in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

Despite a stuttering start to his career at Old Trafford, Rooney is hopeful that the Colombian international can remain dangerous in the final third during a busy festive period.

"It was great for Falcao to get on the scoresheet, and it was a great header," he told MUTV. "I'm pleased for him, and I hope he continues that into the next few games."

United return to action on Boxing Day when they entertain Newcastle United in the Premier League.
