Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes that Barcelona's Lionel Messi is a better player than Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has revealed that he thinks Barcelona forward Lionel Messi is the 'best ever' footballer.

Messi has played a pivotal part in guiding Barcelona to numerous trophies, while also picking up many individual awards, and Rooney believes that the Argentinian is marginally better than his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking at a Google hangout session with DHL, Rooney said: "They're two different players. But I think Messi's incredible. I think he's the best ever, so I'd have to say Messi.

"But Ronaldo has been a bit unlucky because, in any other time, he'd be winning all the awards Messi has. But they're two of the best players of all time."

Both players have excelled in La Liga this season, with Messi netting 37 goals and Ronaldo scoring 24.
