Manchester United 'expect Louis van Gaal to win title'

Louis van Gaal is expected to win the Premier League title in his first season at the helm of Manchester United, according to reports.

Manchester United vice-chairman Ed Woodward has told Louis van Gaal that he must deliver the Premier League title in his first season to consider this campaign a success, according to reports.

Woodward recently issued a demand for the Red Devils to finish no lower than third and guarantee Champions League qualification to protect the club's financial position.

However, Van Gaal has now been informed that only a 21st title will be enough, having been put under greater pressure since the end of the transfer window, where United spent around £150 on new recruits including Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao.

It is said that the Dutchman was made aware of this target before the start of his World Cup campaign in charge of Netherlands, which saw the Oranje reach the semi-finals.

Van Gaal has started his tenure in the Old Trafford hot seat by gathering only two points from a possible nine in the Premier League, and suffered a 4-0 defeat in the League Cup at the hands of League One outfit MK Dons.
