Report: Louis van Gaal admits signing Angel di Maria a mistake

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal privately admits that signing Angel di Maria was a mistake, according to reports.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has privately admitted signing Angel di Maria last summer was a mistake, according to reports.

The Red Devils signed the Argentine international for a fee of £59.7m last summer, but looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain for £44m.

"I think the manager realised he'd made a mistake with Di Maria and it wasn't going to work," a Manchester United source told the Daily Mirror.

"Of course, Di Maria had a four-year contract and the club could have made him stay. But the manager felt that would be pointless if he didn't have the confidence Di Maria would produce what he wanted."

The 27-year-old played 34 times for United last season, scoring four goals.
