Premier League 2015-16 in numbers: Week 1

Sports Mole looks back on the opening weekend of Premier League action with a selection of facts and figures from each of the 10 encounters.

Manchester United 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur

For the first time in Premier League history, the opening goal of a campaign was an own goal courtesy of Spurs defender Kyle Walker.

Despite taking the lead in the first half, the hosting Red Devils did not have a shot on target until the 65th minute when Ashley Young worked Michel Vorm.

Having gone five games without defeat against United, North Londoners Tottenham have now lost back to back games against Louis van Gaal's men.

Bournemouth 0-1 Aston Villa

Rudy Gestede's goal was the 20th that the Villa striker has scored with his head since the start of 2013-14, which is five more than any other player in England's top four divisions.

The visitors also won 1-0 away from home on the opening day of last season - on that occasion it was against Stoke City.

Hosting Bournemouth lost just one game at home in the Championship last term - a number that they have already reached in the Premier League.

Everton 2-2 Watford

The home side have now started the last three Premier League campaigns with 2-2 draws.

However, their winning run against Watford was brought to an end, having emerged victorious from their previous nine clashes with the Hornets.

Miguel Layun's 13th-minute goal was the first that Watford had scored in the Premier League since Marlon King struck against Newcastle United in May 2007.

Leicester City 4-2 Sunderland

The Foxes have now won six of their last seven outings in front of their own supporters at the King Power Stadium.

One of the catalysts behind that run of results has been the form of Jamie Vardy, who has found the net five times in his previous 11 appearances.

Jermain Defoe got his name on the scoresheet for Sunderland, taking his all-time Premier League tally to 129. Only 10 players have found the net more times in the competition's history.

Norwich 1-3 Crystal Palace

In their last 11 Premier League games, Norwich have shipped a total of 23 goals.

The defeat also means that the Canaries have not won any of their last 13 opening day league encounters - drawing six and losing seven times.

French midfielder Yohan Cabaye scored on his Crystal Palace debut, taking his Premier League goal tally to 18. His previous 17 were scored in the colours of Newcastle.

Chelsea 2-2 Swansea City

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois became the 70th player in Chelsea's Premier League history to receive a red card.

The Belgian is also the third Blues keeper to have seen red in the Premier League after Frode Grodas in 1997 and Petr Cech in 2009.

It took Swansea debutant Andre Ayew just 29 minutes to score his first goal for the club.

Arsenal 0-2 West Ham United

In Arsenal's last five Premier League games at the Emirates Stadium, they have failed to find the net in four of them.

Of their 22 attempts against London rivals West Ham, just six called visiting goalkeeper Adrian into action.

The victory for West Ham ended a sequence of 15 matches without a victory against Arsenal, 13 of which they had lost.

Newcastle United 2-2 Southampton

Of Graziano Pelle's 13 Premier League goals to date, this one on Tyneside was just the second that the Italian had scored away from the St Mary's Stadium.

The late equaliser from Shane Long means that the Saints have lost just one of their last seven meetings with Newcastle.

As for the Magpies, they have tasted victory in just one of their previous seven outings in front of their own supporters.

Stoke City 0-1 Liverpool

Philippe Coutinho has scored four Premier League goals in 2015, three of which - including this one against Stoke - were struck from outside of the penalty area.

The win for Liverpool came just 78 days after they had been hammered 6-1 on the final day of last season at the Britannia Stadium.

Stoke have now been a Premier League side for eight seasons, but they have only won on the opening day once.

West Bromwich Albion 0-3 Manchester City

The visitors completed 692 passes at The Hawthorns, which was 211 more than any other Premier League side managed on matchday one.

Captain Vincent Kompany was among the scorers for Man City, having gone the whole of last term without finding the net.

The hosting Baggies have now conceded three goals in each of their last five outings against Man City.
