Sam Allardyce claims Manchester United could be relegated

Former England manager Sam Allardyce claims that Manchester United could face relegation from the Premier League this season.

Former England manager Sam Allardyce has claimed that Manchester United could face relegation if they continue to struggle to pick up results.

The Red Devils have made their worst start to a top-flight campaign for 30 years having only collected nine points from their eight league games since the start of the 2019-20 season.

Next up for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side is a home game against runaway leaders Liverpool, and a defeat to Jurgen Klopp's team could see the Manchester giants drop into the relegation zone if other results go against them.

Allardyce has said that it is not "beyond the realms of possibility" that the 20-time English champions could face a battle to avoid the drop.

"It isn't beyond the realms of possibility that they could catastrophically fall into more problems if confidence goes and injuries stay like they are," Allardyce told talkSPORT.

"Players tend not to get as fit as quick as they would do when things are going well, that's an absolute fact. There's the disturbance of [Paul] Pogba wanting away and who will pop up next saying, 'I see this going the wrong way, I want to leave?'

"Manchester United do not have enough goals and you can see it becoming a struggle. Hopefully it's not a struggle down the bottom end, but they're certainly heading that way."

United have only scored nine times in the Premier League this season, which is among the worst offensive records in the division.
