Endo, Alisson - Liverpool injury latest before Manchester United clash

Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Manchester United.

With vengeance on the mind, Liverpool make the relatively short trip to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, where bitter rivals Manchester United will be waiting to welcome them for a tasty Premier League contest.

The two titans reunite a few weeks on from the Red Devils' thrilling 4-3 success after extra time in the FA Cup quarter-finals, although Erik ten Hag's men were handed a taste of their seven-goal medicine versus Chelsea in midweek.

In contrast, Jurgen Klopp's side remain two points clear at the summit thanks to their 3-1 triumph over Sheffield United, although Arsenal and Manchester City can bump them back down to third with victories on Saturday.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their showdown with Man United, whose astonishing loss to Chelsea leaves them sixth in the standings.

Wataru Endo

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: April 7 (vs. Man United)

The knock that Wataru Endo sustained in last weekend's win over Brighton & Hove Albion was serious enough to rule him out of the Sheffield United triumph, but Klopp said after Thursday's game that there was a "big chance" of the Japan international being passed fit for the trip to Old Trafford.

Diogo Jota

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: April 14 (vs. Crystal Palace)

Diogo Jota, who has been out since February with a knee injury, is expected to be integrated into partial team training next week, but the clash with Man United will arrive too soon for the Portuguese attacker.

Alisson Becker

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: April 14 (vs. Crystal Palace)

Similarly, hamstring victim Alisson Becker will not return to full training before the meeting with the Red Devils, so Caoimhin Kelleher will continue as the last line of defence for the time being.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: April 14 (vs. Crystal Palace)

Towards the end of March, Trent Alexander-Arnold confirmed that he was only a couple of weeks away from returning from his second knee injury of the year, but there is no chance that he will be available for the showdown with Ten Hag's side.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Another player guaranteed to miss the Old Trafford trip is Thiago Alcantara, who damaged a muscle in his only appearance of the season so far against Arsenal, and there is every chance that he has played his final game for the Reds ahead of his June contract expiry.

Ben Doak

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Ben Doak has skipped the whole of 2024 so far due to the knee injury he suffered while turning out for the Under-21s last month, and there is still no timeframe on the attacker's recovery.

Joel Matip

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Joel Matip has now spent almost four months on the sidelines with the ACL rupture he sustained against Fulham in December, and while he is taking steps forward in his rehabilitation, his season is over.

Stefan Bajcetic

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: Unknown

After coming through Under-21s training unscathed, Stefan Bajcetic is set to rejoin the seniors next week following his troublesome calf injury, so an appearance before the campaign ends cannot be ruled out.
