Deadline day key events
Potential transfer battle: Liverpool 'to compete' with Inter for Ligue 1 star
Liverpool are reportedly prepared to rival Inter Milan for Lille striker Jonathan David in 2025.
The 24-year-old has established himself as one of Ligue 1's top stars since joining Lille from Gent in the summer of 2020.
David has racked up 90 goals in 194 competitive appearances for the French side, including 26 goals in 47 matches last term.
As a result of his impressive form, the Canada international was linked with a move away in the recent summer transfer window.
Will the much-criticised Harry Maguire sign a new deal at Man United?
Manchester United will reportedly take their time when it comes to the future of Harry Maguire, with the Red Devils expected to wait for the season to unfold before addressing his situation at Old Trafford.
Maguire's deal with the 20-time English champions is due to expire next summer, although the club do have the option to extend his contract for a further 12 months to take him until June 2026.
The 31-year-old has consistently been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in recent years, but he has remained with the club and is in manager Erik ten Hag's plans for the 2024-25 campaign.
Maguire was not involved against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday through injury, but he has made seven appearances at club level this term, including four outings in the Premier League.
Barcelona wonderkid 'adjusts' contract at Camp Nou after first-team breakthrough
Barcelona have announced that Marc Bernal has adjusted his contract at Camp Nou, with his release clause being increased to €500m (£416m) after an eye-catching start to the 2024-25 campaign.
The 17-year-old started Barcelona's opening three matches of the new season, making a huge impression, and he was set to be an important player for Hansi Flick's side during the German's first campaign at the helm.
However, Bernal suffered a severe knee injury against Rayo Vallecano last month, and he has since undergone an operation, with the youngster unlikely to be back before next season.
Barcelona have confirmed an adjustment to his contract, and while his deal is still running until June 2026, it includes the option of a three-year activation to take him until June 2029 when his status as an Under-19s player ends.
'It was my decision to stay': Casadei reveals details of talks with Maresca
Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei has revealed that it was his decision to opt against a move away from Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window.
There was a time during that period when the 21-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements by newly-appointed head coach Enzo Maresca.
Casadei did not play a single minute of pre-season and appeared highly likely to move to another club, either on loan or a permanent basis.
However, the Italy Under-21 international remained in West London past the end of August before being reintegrated back into the senior ranks by his compatriot.
Will Man United look to sign 30-year-old striker in January?
Manchester United have reportedly held an interest in signing Dinamo Zagreb forward Bruno Petkovic in recent months.
On the back of their spending spree during the summer transfer window, United and head coach Erik ten Hag had hoped to be on track to challenge at the top of the Premier League.
Instead, just seven points have been accumulated from their opening six matches, a run that has included 3-0 defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
As a result, Ten Hag again finds himself under pressure to retain his position in the dugout at Old Trafford, the upcoming games with Porto and Aston Villa potentially proving to be decisive.
"I'm very proud": Szczesny confirmed as new Barcelona player
Barcelona have confirmed that they have signed goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on a free transfer.
As recently as last month, the 34-year-old made the decision to hang up his gloves after a career largely spent playing in the Premier League and Serie A.
Szczesny's last appearances had come at Euro 2024, making his final outings of an 84-cap international career with Poland.
However, the veteran stopper is now back in the limelight having agreed to come out of retirement to replace the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Following in Ronaldo's footsteps? Man United 'interested in Sporting wonderkid'
Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Sporting Lisbon teenager Geovany Quenda.
The 17-year-old made the move to Sporting in 2021, and he progressed through the youth system at the club before making his debut in August 2024.
Quenda has now made 10 appearances for his Portuguese side during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring once and providing one assist in the process, and it is understood that he has caught the eye of a number of major clubs.
According to Fichajes, Man United are keen on the teenager, with the 20-time English champions closely monitoring his performances in the early stages of the 2024-25 campaign.
Man United 'want England international' to solve 'major problem' at Old Trafford
Manchester United are reportedly planning to move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton during next summer's transfer window.
The Red Devils boosted their midfield during the recent market with the acquisition of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain, but both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could leave Old Trafford in 2025.
Despite the arrival of Ugarte, Man United are still struggling to control matches from the middle of the park, and it is believed that the club want to bring in a specialist next year.
According to TEAMtalk, Wharton is viewed by the 20-time English champions as a major target, with the 20-year-old making a huge impression at Selhurst Park after arriving from Blackburn Rovers in January.
