Al-Nassr's move for former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly receiving the backing of the Saudi Arabian government.

Cristiano Ronaldo's potential move to Al-Nassr is reportedly being backed by the government of Saudi Arabia.

The Portugal international has been searching for a new club since his Manchester United contract was terminated following an explosive interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV.

Ronaldo has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, and a recent report claimed that he is close to agreeing a seven-year deal with Al-Nassr.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the offer has the backing of the government, whose involvement could increase Ronaldo's earning potential.

Aspects of the deal would allegedly remain in place even if Ronaldo left the club, with the government keen to use the veteran forward as part of a potential 2030 World Cup bid.

They would also want to utilise the Portugal international's image rights to promote a new 'super-city' called NEOM, which is scheduled to host the 2029 Asian Winter Games.
