Arsenal favourites to sign Manchester United stopper Sergio Romero?

Arsenal are thought to be favourites to sign second-choice Manchester United stopper Sergio Romero in January, according to bookmakers' odds.

Arsenal have emerged as favourites to sign second-choice Manchester United stopper Sergio Romero next month, according to bookmakers' odds.

Romero has enjoyed an impactful career at United despite featuring on the bench for most of Jose Mourinho's reign, as the Argentine stopper proved a vital part of the Old Trafford club's Europa League-winning campaign last term.

David de Gea's imperious form has left Romero the chance to feature in just six Premier League contests since joining the club, leading some reports to suggest that the 30-year-old stopper could seek more game-time elsewhere.

According to Alex Apati of Ladbrokes, Arsenal could be the club most likely to offer Romero that option: "With David de Gea on the scene, Romero is never going to break into Mourinho's first-team plans - and it now looks likely that Wenger will take advantage of the Argentine's availability."

Romero joined United on a free after leaving former club Sampdoria in July 2015.
