Arsenal and Manchester United reportedly suffer a blow in their respective pursuits of Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres.

Arsenal and Manchester United have reportedly been dealt a blow in their efforts to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres has developed a reputation as one of Europe's most prolific strikers since joining the Portuguese giants from Coventry City in the summer of 2023.

The 26-year-old racked up 43 goals in 50 competitive appearances in his first season as a Sporting player, including 29 league goals to help his side lift the Primeira Liga title.

Gyokeres has already matched last season's tally, having netted 43 goals in 43 matches in all competitions in the current campaign.

As a result of his impressive form, Gyokeres is widely expected to leave Sporting this summer amid significant transfer interest.

Arsenal, Man United suffer Gyokeres blow

Arsenal and Man United are among the clubs that have been linked with a potential move for the Sporting star in the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to The Sun, the likes of Arsenal and Man United are facing competition from Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah.

Sporting are expected to allow Gyokeres to leave for a fee below his £85m release clause, with the Portuguese side set to demand a figure between £55m and £70m.

The report claims that Sporting will look to maximise the up-front fee for Gyokeres, so they can put it towards finding a suitable replacement.

Al Qadsiah could have advantage over competitors

Al Qadsiah could have an advantage over Arsenal and Man United because they have the means to pay a significant up-front fee instead of paying several low amounts in instalments.

There is even a suggestion that the Saudi Pro League side could offer above Gyokeres's market value in a bid to win the race for his signature.

Al Qadsiah already have a number of notable names in their squad, including former Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez and ex-Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The club are competing in the Saudi Pro League after winning promotion from the second tier in the 2023-24 campaign.

While Al Qadsiah could make an enticing offer, Gyokeres is believed to be keen to continue his playing career in Europe.
