Besiktas 'to rival Arsenal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan'

Turkish champions Besiktas reportedly join Arsenal in the race to sign out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Turkish champions Besiktas have reportedly joined Arsenal in the race to sign out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Mkhitaryan has made just one Premier League start for United since early November after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and he was once again left out of the squad for Monday's 3-0 win over Stoke City.

United manager Jose Mourinho admitted after that match that it was "possible" Mkhitaryan could leave the club this month, with Arsenal understood to be the frontrunners for his signature as part of a player-plus-cash deal for Alexis Sanchez.

However, TurkishFootball now reports that Besiktas are keen to swoop for the Armenia international in a bid to get their Super Lig title defence back on track.

Besiktas are looking for attacking reinforcements following the sale of Cenk Tosun to Everton earlier this month.

Mkhitaryan has scored two goals and laid on five more in 21 appearances across all competitions this season.
