Sir Alex Ferguson contacts Paris Saint-Germain over Edinson Cavani?

Sir Alex Ferguson is reported to have made contact with Paris Saint-Germain to see if they would be willing to sell Edinson Cavani to Manchester United.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly stepped in to help his successor David Moyes in the transfer market.

It is believed that Ferguson recently made contact with Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc - with whom he shares a positive relationship - regarding the availability of striker Edinson Cavani.

Blanc informed Ferguson that the French club would not consider any bid for the Uruguayan international this month, but they may be open to discussions during the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

However, the report added that United's pursuit of Cavani does not mean that they intend to part with Wayne Rooney, despite the fact that his Old Trafford contract will expire in 2015.

It is thought that Moyes is hopeful that Rooney will agree to a new deal once he sees who the club sign before the start of next season.
