There have also been nine Champions League encounters, with Real Madrid winning five of those, including the finals of the 2013-14 and 2015-16 competitions.
The last La Liga meeting took place at Bernabeu in February, with the two teams playing out a 1-1 draw, but Atletico beat Real Madrid 4-2 in the Copa del Rey at the start of this year.
Real Madrid's last league defeat actually came against Atletico in the early stages of last season, with Los Blancos now incredibly unbeaten in over a year in Spain's top flight.
