Philipp Lahm: 'Losing Bastian Schweinsteiger is a pity for me and the club'

Bayern Munich defender Philipp Lahm says that losing long-term teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger to Manchester United will be a pity for both himself and the German club.

Bayern Munich defender Philipp Lahm has said that the prospect of losing teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger to Manchester United is a "pity" on both a personal and club level.

Bayern and United announced on Saturday that a fee has been agreed for the German World Cup winner to move to Old Trafford, subject to a medical and personal terms being formalised.

"Personally, it's a pity. I played literally my whole football career, at Bayern and the national team, next to Bastian," said Lahm, according to Goal.com

"But he wants a new challenge, I have to accept and respect that. He made this decision all by himself. It's also a pity for the club and he will be missed.

"I'm a friend of his and I wish he will play as good at United as he did here."

United have already made two new signings in the shape of Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian.
