Borussia Monchengladbach director Max Eberl says that the club are open to allowing Denis Zakaria to leave in January amid reported interest from Manchester United.

Borussia Monchengladbach director Max Eberl has said that the club are open to allowing Denis Zakaria to leave Borussia-Park during the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old has again been a key player for Monchengladbach during the 2021-22 campaign, making 11 appearances in all competitions, contributing two goals and one assist in the process.

Zakaria's contract is due to expire next June, though, and a number of clubs continue to be credited with an interest in the Switzerland international.

Manchester United are believed to be planning to move for the midfielder next year, while Barcelona have also been credited with an interest.

Eberl has said that Monchengladbach will not stand in Zakaria's way if he wants to seek pastures new during the January transfer window, with the club running the risk of losing him for nothing next summer.

"If he (Zakaria), or any other player, tell us that they want to leave then we will sort it out. It would be crazy to fight someone if they want to go," Eberl told Bild.

Zakaria has scored 11 times and registered eight assists in 139 appearances for Die Fohlen since making the move from Young Boys in July 2017.
