Man United transfer news: Red Devils ahead of Real Madrid for defensive target?

Manchester United reportedly have a bid accepted for a defender that has also been heavily linked with Real Madrid.

Manchester United have reportedly edged ahead of Real Madrid in the race for Leny Yoro.

The Lille defender has just starred for his side in Ligue 1, making 32 appearances despite being just 18 years of age.

In an ideal world, Lille would prefer to retain the teenager's services for at least another 12 months, but his contract is due to expire in 2025.

As a result, it appears realistic that the French outfit will look to cash in on their most prized asset before the end of August.

Yoro has no shortage of admirers in his signature with Real Madrid known to be monitoring the situation with the France Under-21 international.

United make move for Yoro

However, Man United have also been credited with an interest in the starlet at a time when they are aiming to significantly strengthen in the centre of defence.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have presented a €50m (£42.2m) offer to Lille, which has subsequently been accepted.

Yoro now has a decision to make over how to handle his future, with it being consistently alleged that Real Madrid is his preferred option.

Nevertheless, Lille are said to be trying to encourage their academy graduate that he should join United given that it is the best deal on the table at the present time.

While Real could plausibly now make a formal approach of their own, it is unclear whether they would be prepared to match United's offer.

Ten Hag getting wish regarding additions

Erik ten Hag presumably agreed to pen an extension to his contract with United under the premise that several major additions would be made.

Since the weekend, deals have allegedly been put in place to sign Netherlands duo Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee from Bayern Munich and Bologna respectively.

There is also said to be strong interest in Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite, even though United are yet to get anywhere near to matching the Toffee's £70m valuation.

With the bid for Yoro in a similar ball-park to that of Branthwaite, it is possible that the Frenchman is viewed as a straight alternative to the one-cap England international.
