Manchester United are in no position to bolster their squad in the January transfer window unless they can sell several unwanted players first, according to a report.

Manchester United will reportedly have to ship out a number of unwanted players before they can dig in to their war chest in January.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men are heading into 2021 second in the Premier League table - just three points behind champions Liverpool with a game in hand after a strong start to the campaign.

The Red Devils continue to be linked with big-name players such as Jadon Sancho and Erling Braut Haaland as they look to bolster their squad further, although any deals for reinforcements of that calibre will supposedly have to be completed in the summer.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United will not move for any targets in the January transfer window unless they can offload several out-of-favour players first.

Fringe defenders such as Brandon Williams and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are both being tipped to leave the club in the near future, while speculation surrounding the future of Jesse Lingard has also gathered pace in recent weeks.

However, one player that the Red Devils could complete a deal for next month is Ecuadorian starlet Moises Caicedo, with the 19-year-old reportedly close to sealing a switch from Independiente del Valle.
