Manchester United offer a new contract to Juan Mata, who as it stands can leave Old Trafford on a free transfer at the end of the month.

Manchester United have offered a new contract to Juan Mata, who has just three weeks remaining on his existing deal at Old Trafford.

Mata has just finished his fifth campaign with United, in which he made a total of 20 starts and 11 substitute appearances in all competitions.

However, there has been a reluctance over penning fresh terms due to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer only regarding the Spaniard as a squad member since his appointment in December.

Barcelona and Newcastle United have been credited with an interest in the 31-year-old, although United are now ready to make another attempt to keep the experienced playmaker in the North-West of England.

Mata is likely to take his time over making a final decision, knowing that he is free to keep his options open in the coming months.
