Manchester United are reportedly considering launching a bid for Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos before the transfer window shuts on Monday.
The Red Devils have struggled with defensive injuries throughout the season and are currently without the services of Luke Shaw, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young, leaving head coach Louis van Gaal short of options at the back.
According to reports in France, Van Gaal, whose own position at the club is far from secure, is targeting a move for Marquinhos, who has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the PSG team this season.
It is thought that Man United will offer in the region of £15m for the Brazilian international, who has also been linked with Barcelona.
Van Gaal is expected to be questioned on new signings when he faces the media on Thursday afternoon ahead of Friday's FA Cup fourth-round tie against Derby County.
