Manchester United have reportedly tabled their first bid for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The Dutchman has been the centre of speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford this summer, despite indicating he is keen to remain at Barcelona.
A previous report indicated that the Red Devils were yet to submit a formal offer for the former Ajax player.
However, according to Marca, Manchester United have submitted their opening bid, which is said to be €60m (£51.3m) plus add-ons of €20m (£17.1m).
No deal has yet been agreed upon, but the offer was reportedly warmly received by Barcelona, who are looking to reduce their wage bill so that they can sign new players this summer.
With De Jong reportedly set to earn €40m (£34.2m) in the remainder of his Barcelona contract, offloading the Netherlands international would help the Catalan giants improve their current economic situation.
The 25-year-old, who could be reunited with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, has scored 13 goals in 139 appearances for Barcelona.
